Designed by Vosper Thornycroft as Fast Patrol Boats powered by two Proteus Gas Turbine Engines, and were to replace the Dark class of MTB during the 1960s. Only two were built for the Royal Navy, each slightly different, with three other being sold to the Malaysian Navy.

Built by Vosper & Co of Portsmouth as a follow improved version of the earlier 70' MTBs, The 73' craft was powered by 3 Packard petrol engines giving a top speed of over 40 knots. Introduced into service in 1943, these craft although considered small still managed to mount four 18" torpedo tubes.

ATNS 350** HMS Tenacity
Built as a private venture by Vosper Thornycroft, then sold tothe Royal Navy in 1972, with a view to replacing the old Ton class patrol ships that had been converted from minesweepers. In the event only one was ever commissioned despite good service around the North Sea Oil and gas fields.
