They came into service from late in 1943 and served with distinction for the remainder of WW2 and continued on until the 1960s.

ATK 35052       HMS Vigilant  'V' Class Destroyer

HMS Vigilant was one of the Destroyers of the Late War Emergency Classes designed for the Royal Navy to replace the huge losses among the fleet Destroyers in service since the beginning of WW2. HMS Vigilant was distinguished for her part in the sinking of the Japanese Cruiser Haguro. She served on into the 1960s and was one of the ships taken in for conversion to a Type 15 Frigate during the 1950s

ATK 35053   HMS Portchester Castle  'Castle' Class Corvette

HMS Portchester Castle was one of the Castle Class Corvettes designed for the Royal Navy to replace the smaller Flower Class vessels that were being used as convoy escorts.  They came into service from late in 1943 and served with distinction for the remainder of WW2.

HMS Portchester Castle featured in the movie The Cruel Sea as HMS Saltash Castle

ATK 35054    HMS  Abdiel         Fast Cruiser Mine Layer

HMS Abdiel was one of the Light Cruiser/ Fast Minelayer Class designed for the Royal Navy to provide a vessel for special operations.  They came into service in 1940 and served with distinction through WW2 not only as Minelayers, but because of their incredible speed they were used to ferry essential supplies and personel through to Malta at the height of the siege.  Other ships in the class were HMS Welshman, HMS Latona and HMS Manxman with a further two ships HMS Ariadne and HMS Apollo ordered later. HMS Starling was one of the Black Swan Class Sloops designed for the Royal Navy to provide anti submarine protection for the North Atlantic convoys.  They came into service from late in 1939 and served with distinction for the remainder of WW2 and beyond.

HMS Starling achived fame under the command of Captain Johnny Walker RN and was involved in the sinking of 15 U Boats during the Battle for the Atlantic

The L and M classes of Destroyers were designed almost identical with the new twin 4.7inch enclosed gun turrets a prominent feature, that were supposed to offer more protection to the guns crews whilst operating in the North Atlantic or with the Arctic Convoys. HMS Laforey served mainly in the Mediterranean area and was lost to a U boat in March 1944. Kit can be built as either HMS Laforey or HMS Milne

ATK 35058  HMS Hesperus 'Brazilian' H Class Destroyer

HMS Hesperus was one of six H class Destroyers that had been built for the Brazilian Navy, but were

requisitioned by the Royal Navy at the outbreak of World War 2.  These ships differed from the standard H class in that they had the new style Destroyer bridge structure and also they were better equiped for anti submarine work, having the 4.7" Y turret removed and provision made for additional depth charge rails and throwers on the stern.

Hesperus served throughout the war in the Atlantic and Western Approaches

ATK 35059   HMS  Glowworm   'G' Class Destroyer

HMS Glowworm was one of the Royal Navy's G class  Destroyers that were built during the inter war years. She gained fame by her lone encounter with the German Cruiser Admiral Hipperduring the Norweigian campaign early in WW2. The Glowworm was sunk due to being totally outsized and outgunned but not before making a gallant stand and inflicting substantial damage on the Hipper.

HMS Janus was one of the J class Fleet Destroyers that were order by the Royal Navy as an

alternative to the larger Tribal class.  HMS Janus served mostly in the Mediterranean area of

operations until she was sunk by a torpedo bomber off whilst patrolling off the beaches of Anzio in January 1944.

ATK 35063   HMS Kelly  'K' Class Fleet  Destroyer 1941

HMS Kelly was one of the K class Fleet Destroyers that were a follow on order by the Royal Navy made to the same specifications as the J class  HMS Kelly served mostly in the Mediterranean area of operations, under Captain (D) Lord Louis Mountbatten.  HMS Kelly was sunk during the Battle of Crete in May 1941 by a squadron of dive bombers.

ATK 35064   HMS Tartar  'Tribal' Class Destroyer 1944

HMS Tartar was one of the 'Tribal' class of large fleet destroyers brought into Royal Navy service prior to WW2. The class suffered heavy losses and only four out of the original sixteen ships in RN service survived to the end, HMS Tartar being one of them.  The kit is based on HMS Tartar as she appeared during the last year of WW2, though the kit can be backdated to an earlier fit if desired.

ATK 35065   HMS Gorleston  'Banff' Class Sloop 1943

HMS Gorleston was one of a group of American Coast Guard Cutters on loan to the Royal Navy under the Lease Lend agreement. Gorleston herself was formerly the USCG Cutter Itasca, one of the ships involved in the search for Amelia Earhart. The kits currently available are original WEM castings and are limited in number. Depending on demand the

kits will be cast through the normal Atlantic Models production line in the future.

ATK 35067   ORP Piorun   (HMS Noble) 'N' Class Destroyer 1944

ORP Poirun was one of the N class Fleet Destroyers that were a follow on order by the Royal Navy made to the same specifications as the J class.  Initially HMS Nerissa, she was re named ORP Poirun before completion and commissioned with a Polish crew. Poirun served alongside her sister ships in the Royal Navy with distinction throughout WW2.

In 1946 she was handed back to the Royal Navy and re named HMS Noble.

ATK 35068 HMS Mary Rose  'M' Class Destroyer 1915

(Emergency War Programme)

HMS Mary Rose was one of several M class Destroyers ordered under the Emergency War Programme of 1914. She was launched in October 1915 and was Sunk in October 1917 off Lerwick by the German raiders SMS Brummer and SMS Bremse, whilst escorting a convoy.

ATK 35069   HMS Jervis 'J' Class Destroyer Leader 1944

HMS Jervis was the Flotilla Leader of the  J Class Destroyers and one of the few of the class to survive the rigours of WW2. This kit is portrayed as HMS Jervis appeared at the end of the war, with all the modernisations and upgraded AA weapons.

ATK 35070  HMS Tynedale Type 1 Hunt Class Destroyer

The Type 1 Hunt Class Escort Destroyers, which this kit depicts, were an initial batch of this type of escort

destroyer, that had to be revised.  Due to serious flaws in the design involving the amount of top weight produced by the required weapon and equipment fit, the Type 1 had to be re aseessed and the armament

re located to counter the stability problems. This kit can be built as any one of the Type 1 Class. 

Kit consists of resin and metal parts with the fine details supplied on a photo etched brass sheet. The hull is moulded in two halves, upper and lower so that it can be built as either full hulled or waterline.

ATK 35071  HMS Badsworth  Type 2 Hunt Class Destroyer

The Type 2 Hunt Class Escort Destroyers, which this kit depicts, were a modified variant that incorporated the changes made from lessons learned from design flaws that led to serious re working of the Type 1 Hunts to correct the stability problems that had occurred. The Type 2 now received the twin 4" Turret in X position as originally designed, though the forward superstructure was somewhat smaller.
